ResoFus Alomar using ExAblate for Pain Relief Surgery Applications

ExAblate is a new, radiation-free treatment that can provide prompt pain relief for individuals suffering from bone tumor pain. Using non-invasive focused ultrasound technology, ExAblate treats painful bone metastases by destroying the pain-causing nerves in the bone surface surrounding the tumor.

ExAblate treatments are precision-controlled and monitored by Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) technology, ensuring a high rate of effectiveness with minimal damage to surrounding tissue. This unique combination of technologies is called Magnetic Resonance guided Focused Ultrasound Therapy (MRgFUS).

Pain Relief Treatments

Facet Joint Syndrome

Low back pain constitutes the majority of musculoskeletal problems seen in chronic pain settings. The lifetime incidence of back pain has been reported to be between 54%-80%. Lumbar facet joint pain is a syndrome in which the zygapophysial joints cause back pain. It may account for as much as 14%-45% of those patients experiencing chronic LBP.

Osteoid Osteoma

Osteoid osteoma is a painful but benign bone lesion that usually affects patients aged 10–20 years. The most frequent symptom is localized bone pain that flares up nocturnally. Once the diagnosis has been established, conventional therapy options include surgical, pharmacologic, or percutaneous treatment. Because surgical resection can be challenging and often requires a long period of recovery, minimally or non-invasive  therapies are increasingly the primary option at many centers.

Bone Metastases

Bone is the third most common organ to which cancer metastasizes, after the lungs and liver, and pain from bone metastases is the most common cause of cancer pain, Palliation of symptoms is the primary goal of bone metastases therapy.

Increased longevity in general, coupled with better therapeutic management of cancer patients, has contributed to the high incidence of metastatic bone lesions. As more patients are living with bone metastases, improving their Quality of Life (QoL) becomes a major treatment challenge.
