It is the only surgical procedure that uses ultrasound through the urethra. In this way we achieve greater accuracy and avoid damage to structures such as the rectum. Ultrasound waves are high frequency sound waves that the human ear can not hear. We use MR images to allow the doctor see inside your body and locate the prostate lesion. During the treatment, the MR images allow us to see at what temperatures the tissue arrives, and after the treatment, these images allow us to see the success of the treatment from the non-vascularized tissue.

Thanks to the fact that it is a technique guided by MRI, it gives safety and reduces the side effects from injury to structures that we do not want to damage.
Unlike the treatment performed with radiotherapy or braquiotherapy, the focused ultrasound does not use ionizing radiation, thus avoiding the side effects of radiation exposure.
Since the treatment is non-invasive, it can be performed as an outpatient procedure, meaning minimal hospitalization is needed. You can expect to resume normal activities within days.
